JUNE 11 & 12, 2016   12 - 4pm

Come sing with me! I will be giving two afternoon vocal workshops teaching folk songs from the Balkan and Caucasus regions, as well as some of my original compositions from the song cycle Apple Blossoms and Brine, commissioned by Kitka Women's Vocal Ensemble (New Folksongs From Within, 2013).

After earning my degree in music from Mills College (Oakland, CA), I studied Bulgarian folk singing as a Fulbright Scholar in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. During my tenure as member and music director of Kitka Women's Vocal Ensemble, I worked closely with many of the group's beloved folk singing mentors. I draw on that experience to offer an intimate vocal workshop, honing individual voices while cultivating ensemble sound.

Workshops will be limited to twelve participants, and singers are invited to register for one or both workshops, as different material will be taught in each workshop. Prior folk singing experience is not necessary! This workshop is open to anyone who wants to learn some beautiful songs and harmonize their voice in a group. All are welcome!
